現在休館中のアメリカの国立美術館 National Gallery of Artにて今年3月より開催されていた、巨匠 Edgar Degasの展覧会「Degas at the Opéra」を自宅で体験できるヴァーチャルツアーが、同館のウェブサイトで公開。

19世紀パリに生まれ、鋭い観察眼と豊かな想像力で近代都市の情景を描いたEdgar Degas。
印象派の創設メンバーの1人で、1874年から1886年にかけて開催された印象派展のほとんどに参加した一方、屋内の人工的な光や緻密な線描を重んじ、レアリストと呼ばれることを好んでいた。

中でもオペラに魅了され、約40年にわたり踊り子を主題として描き続けた彼は、ステージや観客席など劇場の公的な空間のみならず、バックステージやダンス教室といったプライベートな場所にも足を運んだ。

オペラ創立350周年を記念した「Degas at the Opéra」では、油彩からパステル、線描、版画、彫刻まで、さまざまなメディアにわたるDegas の名作およそ100点が展示された。

公開中のヴァーチャルツアーでは、展示室を探索しながら解説文を読んだり、オーディオツアーを聴いたり、関連するビデオクリップを視聴したりすることが可能。

さらに、ウェブサイトにはDegasにインスピレーションを与えた音楽や劇場、また展示作品に描かれた人物にまつわるテキストや、19世紀フランス絵画を専門とするキュレーター Kimberly A. Jonesによる約1時間のレクチャームービーなど、「Degas at the Opéra」をオンラインで楽しめるさまざまなコンテンツが用意されている。
