フィラデルフィアを拠点に活動するアーティスト Karen Kilimnikの展覧会が、ニューヨークの303 Galleryにて、12月20日（金）まで開催中。

伝統文化から近年の大衆文化までを参照しながら、独自のダークでロマンティックな世界を紡ぎ出すKaren Kilimnik。
1980年代に注目を集めた、「スキャッターアート」と称されるがらくたを撒き散らしたようなインスタレーションのほか、Leonardo DiCaprioやKate Mossら著名人や思春期の少女の肖像を中心とした緩やかなタッチの絵画や、鋭くも愛情に満ちた目線で切り取った写真など、幅広い作品を手掛けてきた。

Kilimnikのイメージは、バレエや絵画、映画、ファッション、ポップミュージック、さらには子ども時代や魔法、タイムトラベル、殺人といったさまざまなもので構成され、ぼんやりとした不安を掻き立てながらもノスタルジーを感じさせる。

今展では、絵画から写真、コラージュ、彫刻、ムービーまで、Kilimnikの多岐に渡る作品が一堂に会する。
その数々は、いずれも歴史や建築、芸術、ファッション、映画とテレビ、音楽とバレエ、動物と自然、科学と文学に由来し、それぞれの世界を結びつけたものとなっている。

また、新たな映像作品としては、Marius Petipaが手掛けた19世紀のバレエ「The Awakening of Flora（邦題：フローラの目覚め）」を引用した作品や、第二次世界大戦を舞台に制作された複数の映画から、背景の音楽や兵士たちの間に生まれた友情の描写が印象的なカットを寄せ集めた作品が展示される。

ひとさじの毒気を含んだイノセンス。
稀有な美意識とあふれる知的好奇心が織りなす、甘く淡い夢に酔いしれて。
