‘Issue 1’
This story was my first shoot with with Damon Heath, the photographer and founder of Lula Magazine.
Although I was nervous, I was deeply impressed by the beautiful harmony between the wonderful London location and the way he captured his vision of the world.
The model, Stacy Martin, was transitioning from a model to an actress at that time, and we cast her because her ambiguous and delicate transition from girl to woman resonated with Lula Japan’s sense of beauty.
I met her several times at shows and other occasions after that and I clearly remember that each time she told me how much she enjoyed shooting at Lula Japan.
I am still very happy that we were able to feature her on the cover of our first issue.
‘Issue 1’
One of the stories from the ‘UNUSUAL BALANCE’ series in Issue 1, which was my first shoot for Lula Japan left a deep impression and remains a strong memory for me.
The combination of photographer Coco Capitán and stylist Mana Yamamoto created an absolutely stunning visual that was both perfectly cute and cool.
I remember how thrilling it was to be on the set, with a sense of nervousness and a strange atmosphere that I had never experienced before.
I was also thrilled in a different way when I asked Mana Yamamoto, a stylist I admired, for the unusual request, “I want to create a weird balance in the styling,” at the very beginning of the planning process.
I felt that Mana Yamamoto really enjoyed working on this project.
This photo is filled with so many other thoughts and feelings that I can’t even fully express them all down here. I still love this one.

「BEIGE」
‘BEIGE’
Since it is difficult to choose just one memory from all the unforgettable shoots, I’ve decided to highlight a shot that was not published in the magazine.
This was taken by photographer Martina Matencio for one of the stories from the ‘MY OWN Lula’ series in Issue 6.
I remember that the set designer joined us for this shoot, and I was deeply impressed by how the image of the space that we had discussed in advance was beautifully brought to life on the day of the shoot.
This is one of my favorites shots, filled with everything I love−−from the unique approach to the shoot, that modern vibe, to the mood of the styling.
