ロンドンを拠点とするアーティスト Sara Anstisによる個展「Bath」が、ペロタンサロン東京にて4月5日（土）まで開催中。

官能的な柔らかさを持つパステルと油絵具を用いて、主観性や神話、エコロジーを探求する舞台としての世界を描くSara Anstis。

民話や夢の視覚言語をもとに生み出される絵画は、超現実的な風景や精巧な光を帯びた人物、擬人化された植物、象徴的なモチーフなどを織り交ぜて構成されており、物質感と物語の両方を宿す。

シュルレアリスム、さらに中世・初期ルネサンスを思わせる表現、そして20世紀半ばの色彩理論や幾何学的抽象の要素や色調。
油彩画とドローイングで構成される彼女の作品には、裸の人物が動物と親密に交わる情景が描かれ、美術史の文脈と結びついた独自の関心が見て取れる。

さらに水彩紙の持つ質感とその上に重なる柔らかなパステルの層は独特の官能的な質感を生み出し、紙面からは色鮮やかなイメージが立ち現れる。

本展のタイトル「Bath」は浴室をローマ的な視点で捉えたもので、日常の浴槽から冥界へ、そして再び日常へと導く流れを示唆する。

初の発表となる木製パネルの作品では、顔料を通してパネルの木目が浮かび上がり、木目と絵具が溶け合う新たな表現が生み出されている。
