フランスのアーティスト Jean-Philippe Delhommeの個展「visage(s)」が、ペロタン東京にて11月5日（日）まで開催中。

1959年に生まれ、30年以上にわたって出版やコミュニケーション業界でキャリアを築きながら絵画の実践を発展させてきたJean-Philippe Delhomme。

写実性よりも画家とモデルとの視線の交換に関心を寄せ、直に被写体を観察する彼の行為は、写真が発明される以前の肖像画から脈々と流れる伝統を受け継いでいる。
その中には常に移り変わる今が捉えられており、現実に代わるイメージや像を目の前にもたらす、リプレゼンテーショナルな絵画であると言える。

今展では、パリのアトリエで古典的なポーズをとったモデルたちを描いた一連の新作肖像画を展示。
アトリエという管理状況下において発生した、特定の時間に定義づけられる被写体の存在が記録されている。

タイトルとなった「visage(s)」はフランス語で顔という意味を持ち、彼の絵画が身体よりも顔に焦点を当てていることを強調する。
これについて彼は「顔は、傷つきやすさ、脆さ、変化が表れるところです。風景が光によって変化するように、顔は日々変化し、ポーズをとっている間にも変化するものです」と話している。

また展覧会の開催にあわせ、アーティスト自身が執筆した詩とインクのドローイングを含む新しい詩集「Studio Poems」も発表。
本作はDelhommeが90s初頭に日本へ初来日した際に持ち歩いていた、谷崎潤一郎の「陰翳礼讃」において、著者が説いた日本の美学に敬意を表した作品となっている。

被写体と呼応するように描かれたポートレート。
相互の問いかけの中で刻々と変化する、繊細な表情を見つめて。
