This spring, ‘CHANCE EAU SPLENDIDE’ joined the fragrance series ‘CHANCE ‘, embodying Gabrielle Chanel’s philosophy: Luck is my soul.
Beginning with an accord of raspberry, the rich floral of rose geranium, and moving on to a mysterious accord of iris, cedar, and white musk.
Angèle, a singer and songwriter from Belgium, became the ambassador who embodies this dynamic appeal.
She not only appeared in the campaign film but also wrote the music for this fragrance.
On her long-awaited visit to Japan, she talked about ‘CHANCE EAU SPLENDIDE’, episodes related to scents, and her own musical activities.
I was in New York when I started composing this song, and that is why the song is in English. But I wanted to add some French. The perfume ‘CHANCE EAU SPLENDIDE’ is the subject that brings a lot of ideas. And as it’s a perfume, it brings something nostalgic. Considering these, I finished composing in one day. It was challenging, but it made me really excited.

Give your feedback or feelings about being the new ambassador.
I feel so grateful. It is very lucky for me to join the beautiful process of this campaign, such as traveling to many places and being photographed. Since I started working together with “CHANEL“, my life has been filled with lovely events.
I’m excited to see where this will be going.

Do you feel a sense of closeness between ‘CHANCE EAU SPLENDIDE’ and yourself?
I do feel very close to the fragrance, the whole campaign, and the character in the video, where the imaginary person is catching the bottle to take a chance. Because we did work all together to create this image and thanks to the work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who did the video, it became so beautiful and well done.
I feel ‘Splendide’ when I am in Tokyo, and when I go on stage. It brings beautiful emotions to perform on stage for people who listen to my music. It’s a way to share something very intimate. It’s like you do music in your home and then you get to play it for people and to sing it at all. I am also looking forward to playing in Tokyo.

Do you see anything in common between the fragrance and the music?
There are many things in common between fragrance and music. Both are invisible to the eye and go well with memory and feeling, and are intuitive but also sometimes theoretical. With Olivier Polge, who made this scent, we found out that there were so many similarities between making a fragrance and making music. Both are instinctive acts to tell the story we have, and we need to have a lot of technique and knowledge. Like you have some formula for making scent, we have notes and chords for music. We speak about travel and layers. This is beautiful because it is like a perfect combination of technique, intuition, and emotion.
Born in Belgium in 1995. She has a musician father and an older brother, and an actor mother. Her genreless style, ranging from pop to electro and rap, has made her popular, and the debut album ‘Brol’ (2018) got a hit not only in Belgium but also in France.
In 2024, she garnered attention for her performance at the closing ceremony for the Paris Olympics, where she collaborated with rock band Phoenix.
