‘FAIRY TALES AND RITUALS’ “Once upon a time there lived in a certain village a little country girl, the prettiest creature who was ever seen. Her mother was excessively fond of her; and her grandmother doted on her still more. This good woman had a little red riding hood made for her. It suited the girl so extremely well that everybody called her Little Red Riding Hood…”(Charles Perrault)
“Little Red Riding Hood” is a European fairy tale about a young girl and a Bad Wolf: its origins can be traced back to several 10th century European folk tales.
Actually the inspiration of fairy tales and ancient literature are so important in my artistic research.
Crimson Red is the symbolic color I use to underline the essence of my characters.
In my imaginary Crimson world a young Queen fall off a chair, a little King hides his eyes behind an oversize crown and a melancholic boy speaks to us with his silence.
Besides Crimson Red is a ritual color.
When I was a child my mother used to touch my face with a red crimson ribbon: this “Caress of the Moon” was our sweet ritual that helped me to fall asleep.
During the openings of my exhibitions, I used to wear color black with a little touch in Crimson Red. This combination gives me force and stability.
And about painting…Crimson is a beautiful red colour, inclining to purple; my brushes became Crimson to represent the sensitive red on a cheek, the light on an ear, the hidden words behind a lip.
I dream of the ancient circus parade, when the Ringmaster would open the red curtains of his magic universe…
